About GreeceCalendar

What GreeceCalendar is, where the holiday dates come from, how the calculators work and how to report a mistake.

Last updated:

GreeceCalendar is an independent, free website for people who live and work in Greece: public holidays with their legal status, Orthodox Easter, school breaks, working-day calculators, long weekends and a vacation optimizer, in English and Greek.

Where the dates come from

  • Mandatory public holidays follow Law 4808/2021 (article 60) and the laws that introduced individual holidays; optional and customary holidays follow the guidance of the ΓΣΕΕ-ΚΕΠΕΑ information centre.
  • Movable feasts are calculated from Orthodox Easter with the Julian paschalion, the method used by the Church of Greece.
  • School breaks follow Presidential Decree 79/2017 and the Ministry of Education's annual announcements; years that have not been confirmed yet are marked as provisional.
  • Transfers of a holiday (for example 1 May falling in Holy Week) are shown as expected until the ministerial decision is published, and the status is stated on the page.

Every holiday page lists its sources and the date the data was last checked. "Today" is always calculated in Greek time (Europe/Athens).

How the calculators work

The working-days, business-days, working-hours and vacation tools use one calculation engine: calendar days minus weekends minus the public holidays of the calendar you choose (statutory, statutory plus optional holidays, or public sector). Results are estimates for information only and are not legal, tax, payroll or financial advice; collective agreements and company rules may differ.

Corrections

If you find a wrong date or a missing holiday, write to us with the page and, if possible, an official source. We check every report before changing anything.

Advertising and sister projects

To cover running costs the site may show ads served by Google; ads never influence the content. GreeceCalendar is built by the team behind Greek Name Days (greeknamedays.online) and Simple Invoice (simple-invoice.online), which we link where they are useful. See the privacy policy for details.
