The Dormition of the Theotokos on 15 August is the 'summer Easter' of Greece: the islands fill with pilgrims and festivals, Tinos and Paros hold famous celebrations, and it is the name day of Maria, Panagiotis and Despina. It is a mandatory public holiday in the middle of the summer vacation season.
