Who is off on which day?
Greek law distinguishes several kinds of holidays. The table uses these labels:
- Mandatory public holiday
- Every business must close; employees are paid without working (Law 4808/2021, art. 60).
- Optional public holiday
- Public services, schools and banks are closed; private businesses may work.
- Customary holiday
- Public services, schools and banks are closed; not a statutory holiday for private businesses.
- Religious feast
- Important feast of the Church; falls on a Sunday or is a normal working day.
