Orthodox Easter Sunday
About the holiday
Easter is the greatest feast of the Greek Orthodox year. At midnight on Holy Saturday the Resurrection is announced with candles and fireworks; on Easter Sunday families roast lamb, crack red eggs and celebrate together. The date follows the Julian paschalion, so it usually differs from Western Easter. Easter Sunday is a Sunday, so shops are closed everywhere.
