Time zone

Greece uses Eastern European Time: UTC+2 in winter (EET) and UTC+3 in summer (EEST). Phones and computers update automatically; only mechanical clocks, ovens and cars need a hand.

What changes on the day

  • Trains, ferries and flights run on the new time; a departure at 03:30 on the night of the spring change does not exist.
  • Shift workers paid by the hour work one hour less in March and one hour more in October.
  • Sunrise and sunset move by an hour: in late October it gets dark around 17:30 in Athens.
