January opens the year with New Year's Day and, on the 6th, Epiphany with the blessing of the waters in every harbour. Schools reopen after the Christmas break around 8 January. Athens is mild and wet, the mountains have snow and the ski centres are open. The Three Hierarchs on the 30th is a school celebration but no longer a day off.
